Yarmouth, Ma.- Frank E. Whelden Jr. passed away on Saturday April 16, 2016 at Cape Cod Hospital after a brief illness at the age of 92. Frank was the beloved husband of the late Barbara E. (Howes) Whelden who together shared 53 years of marriage. Frank was proud to be a life long resident of Yarmouth with the exception of the time he served in the U.S. Army during World War II . Frank was a laborer with the town of Yarmouth Water Department eventually working his way up into the position of heavy equipment operator. He worked for the town of Yarmouth for over 30 years, retiring from there in 1982. He was also employed by Viola Irrigation Company until he finally retired at the age of 68. Frank is survived by his son Edward F. Whelden of Yarmouth and a daughter Rita Jacks of Derry, New Hampshire. He also leaves a granddaughter Kimberly Dawn Jack of New Hampshire and one great grandchild. Survivors also include brothers David Whelden of South Dennis and George Whelden of Mississippi ; sisters Miriam Thompson of WV and Faith Hysaw of AL. Frank was also the brother of the late Inez Scott of IN . He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held Thursday April 21, 2016, from 11:00am-12:30pm at Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home 729 Rte. 134 South Dennis, MA followed by a graveside service at Dennis Village Cemetery. Friends and relatives are cordially invited to attend. Frank received for his service to our Country the European African Middle Eastern Campaign ribbon with 3 service stars.
