Daniel Mark Kent, beloved father, husband, son, friend, and longtime resident of Brewster, Massachusetts, passed away on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at the age of 60 after a short but courageous battle with metastatic lung cancer.
Dan was born October 30, 1960 to parents Daniel and Carolyn “Lyn” Kent. He grew up as the quintessential middle child in a tightknit neighborhood in Framingham, Massachusetts. From the very beginning, Dan was hard-working and industrious; known for both his intellect and troublemaking. For example, Dan was a master of science experiments in his youth, which resulted famously in an accidental explosion that took out his parents’ back porch.
Dan graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a bachelor’s degree in English. A few years later, along with his first wife, Kathleen, Dan welcomed a son, Matthew Daniel Kent, who continues to be one of his greatest accomplishments. In 1993, Dan began seeing (and later married) Cindy Kent, who would become his greatest love and lifelong partner for the next 28 years. This formation of a new family included his “bonus” daughter, Nicole (Marshall) Stefanowicz with whom he had an incredibly special relationship. A reluctant pet owner, Dan cared for many animals in his home, including dog, Maggie and “granddog”, Ayla, both of whom he cared for at the end of their lives and we expect will be greeting him shortly.
In recent years, Dan’s family expanded to include daughter-in-law Crystal, son-in-law Michael, and four grandchildren: Matthew (14), Sarah (8), Patrick (4), and Calliope (1). Dan enjoyed many special moments with his family this past summer as he grappled with the limitations of his life here on Earth.
Dan was an avid reader, lover of music, and jack of all trades. He was as hardworking as they come, with notable jobs at the Brewster Ice Company, Rosewood Manor, Cape Cod Hospital, Epoch Healthcare, and most recently MidCape Home Centers. He was so proud to be able to take care of his family and very recently made the final mortgage payment on his family’s home.
Dan was taken from us too soon, but as someone recently pointed out, Dan lived close to two lifetimes in his sixty years with us. We invite you to share your memories during a celebration of life on Monday, October 4th at Doane, Beal, & Ames Funeral Home in South Dennis. Visiting hours will take place from 9-11am with a short personal service led by the family at 11am that day.
Dan is survived by his immediate family: wife, Cindy Kent; his children Matthew (Crystal) Kent of Bangor, ME and Nicole (Michael) Stefanowicz of Colchester, VT; grandchildren, Matthew Gonzales, Sarah Kent, Patrick Stefanowicz, and Calliope Stefanowicz; Parents, Daniel and Carolyn “Lyn” Kent of Yarmouthport, MA; sisters, Karyn (Jamie) Eldredge of Centerville, MA and Lisa (Richard) Finlay of Yarmouthport, MA; sisters-in-law Kelly Estabrook of Yarmouthport, MA and Jennifer (Chris) Hurd of Marston, NC; “brother” and best friend, Mark (MaryEllen) Cruickshank of Lowell, MA; “granddogs” Waffle and Lucy, along with many nieces and nephews.
