Barbara Fletcher March of South Yarmouth died October 27, 2013. Born Barbara Armistice Fletcher on November 11, 1921 in Natick, MA, she was the daughter of Lucy and Arthur Fletcher and grew up on Fletcher Farm in Needham, MA. She attended Needham schools and was a member of the class of 1943 at Russell Sage College. In 1942 Barbara married Roland C. March, Jr., also of Needham, who predeceased her in1984.
The March family moved to South Yarmouth in 1966, where they were founding members of St. David’s Episcopal Church. Barbara had been a member of the Vestry, Church School Teacher, Eucharistic Visitor, and Pastoral Care Coordinator. She served the Visiting Nurse Association of Cape Cod as Board member and office volunteer for many years and had also been a volunteer at Windsor Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Barbara was a long-time volunteer Girl Scout leader and Service Unit Chairman for Plymouth Bay Girl Scout Council. She was truly dedicated to service, family and community.
Barbara is predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Emily and Miles Hulse of Needham, MA. She is survived by four children; Susan P. Allen and her husband George of Mystic, CT, Charles W. March and his wife Robyn of Falmouth, Maine, Rebecca M. Parsons and her husband Roger of South Yarmouth, and Nancy Call and her husband Shane of South Yarmouth. Barbara is also survived by her brother-in-law Hugh N. March and his wife Olive of West Yarmouth. She was blessed with eleven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and a nephew.
A memorial service will be held at St. David’s Episcopal Church, South Yarmouth on November 16th at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be held following the service, as well as a private interment at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, MA. There will be no calling hours.
