Mark N. Watson, 68, of Dartmouth, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at home. He was the loving companion of Irene Vasques for the past 14 years. In addition to his companion he is survived by his three children: Katie Watson, John Watson and Nathan Watson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Born in New Bedford, a son of the late John E. Watson, Jr. and Ruth (Bragg) Watson, he had resided in New Bedford and Dartmouth for most of his life. He was recently predeceased by his brother, Daniel Watson.
Mark was a graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School, the Laurelcrest Preparatory School in Bristol, CT and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from the University of Maine at Orono. He had a successful career as a teacher in the New Bedford School system, retiring from Normandin Junior High School.
Mark was an avid sports fan and athlete. He loved playing, watching and coaching. He reveled in the comradery of friends and teammates while competing in various sports including football, softball and golf. He often hosted eat-a-thons where he cherished providing food and fun for family and friends. He considered the beach and ocean to be his happy place, where he always found peace.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2018 from 3pm-6pm in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME AT DARTMOUTH, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth.
