Cristiano N. “Cris” Saraiva, age 90 of New Bedford, passed away with his family by his side on Saturday, July 6, 2019 in St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the son of the late Joseph D. and Maria M. (Mendonca) Saraiva.
Born in Gouveia, Portugal, he has been a resident of New Bedford since 1946. Cris was employed at the family-owned “Hazelwood Luncheonette” for 34 years, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and former member of the “Washington Club.” He was an avid bowler at the former “Playdium Bowling Lanes” and he enjoyed playing cards at the “Belmont Club and the Tavern.” He enjoyed watching and talking about sports, especially baseball.
He is survived by a sister, Mary Sousa of New Bedford; three nieces, Donna M. Sousa-Wright of CA, Debra A. Mello and her husband Ray of CA and Darlene J. Oliveira and her husband Roy of New Bedford; a nephew Robert Messier of Dartmouth and several great nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Joseph Saraiva.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at 10AM in Rural Cemetery, New Bedford. Meet at Grape Street entrance. Relatives and friends are invited.
