Mary (Dwyer) Mayer, age 76, of Somerset, passed away after a period of illness on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the wife of Donald J. Mayer, to whom she has been married for the past 42 years.
Born in Providence, RI, a daughter of the late Benjamin and Mary (Livermore) Dwyer, she had been a longtime resident of Somerset.
A graduate of St. Xavier Academy, she received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Salve Regina University and her Master’s degree in Education from Rhode Island College in 1971. She was a Teacher for the Cranston Public School Department for over thirty years before retiring in 2000.
Mrs. Mayer was an active communicant of St. Patrick’s Church and a member of the Mother of Twins Club of Greater Fall River. An avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan, she also enjoyed doing all types of puzzles and playing solitaire.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by five sons, Gregory Mayer and his wife Lori of Pembroke, MA, Eric Mayer and his wife Fran of Portland, OR, Bradford Mayer and his wife Andrea of Coventry, RI and twins Michael and Nathan Mayer both of Somerset; one brother, William Dwyer of Pitman, NJ; one sister, Maureen King of Woonsocket, RI; six grandchildren, Grace, Owen, Jereni, Jorden, Alexander, and Emily Mayer; and many nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral will be held on Tuesday July 9th, 2019 at 9:00AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Rose E. Sullivan, 866 County St., Somerset, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM in St. Patrick’s Church, 306 South St., Somerset. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours will be on Monday July 8th from 4:00 to 7:00PM. Contributions in her honor may be made to the Catholic Charities Appeal, 450 Highland Ave., Fall River, MA 02720. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Somerset.
