John A. Kin, 89, of CA, passed away September 12th in California. Born March 5th, 1921 in Syracuse, NY to Frank and Julia Kin. He was the eldest of 5 children. He had two brothers, Mike and Bob, and two sisters Helen and Judy. He grew up during the Depression Era and had to quit school early and joined the CC Corp. when he was only 17. In 1940 he joined the Army and served till August of 1945. He was stationed in Hawaii, Guadalcanal, New Britain and New Guinea. As a Medical NCO he assisted doctors and nurses in treating, caring and transporting the wounded and medical supplies. He was part of the 27th and 40th Divisions. After his service he married Alyce Papaleoni on Sept 3rd 1945 and lived in Syracuse, NY till 1948. Alyce gave birth to John Michael Kin in June of 1946 and in 1948 packed up a trailer and moved to Lynwood, CA. In 1950 son Steven Alan Kin was born and they purchased their first home in Rivera, CA., which became Pico Rivera in 1958. John worked for Lever Brothers in Commerce, CA as a pneumatic mechanic for nearly 30 years before retiring to Crestline, Ca. in 1983. In 1999, due to health concerns they moved to Vista, CA. and John was an active Elk in Vista Lodge 1968 and a VFW member with Post 7041 until 2006 when he and Alyce then moved in with their son Steven in Lakewood Ca. Following a stroke in April of this year John spent nearly 5 months in a convalescent center recovering and doing rehab to walk again. Due to complications from Pneumonia John passed away Sept 12th in the early morning. This Labor Day he and Alyce celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
John is survived by his wife, the former Alyce Papaleoni, 2 sons, Steven & Michael (Elizabeth) and 3 grandchildren, Tony, Samantha and Katia.
Memorial services were September 21st at St. Pancratius Church in Lakewood and interment in Mission San Luis Rey Cemetery, Oceanside CA.
