Oh what a life!
Peter was born in Detroit, MI, to Peter Sr. and Yolanda Lipka, on June 18th, 1943. Growing up with 8 people sharing a small 2 bedroom house in the suburbs, Peter developed strong family ties. Escaping the close quarters inside, he would often retreat to the front porch with one or more of his siblings to listen to Detroit Tigers games on the radio. This would inspire many scrappy baseball games with the neighborhood rivals.
Peter truly enjoyed frequent trips out to the family farm where a child’s imagination could run wild and create the most heroic adventures. It was here, fishing the creeks and hunting pheasant, where Peter would kindle his love for nature and the outdoors. He accepted the Lord Jesus as his Savior when he was young, and this relationship laid the foundation for his kind and optimistic attitude towards life. After graduating high school in 1961, Peter traveled to Minneapolis, MN and enrolled at North Central Bible School. Here he met the love of his life, Peggy Ann Bull. It truly was love at first sight. On September 29th, 1962, they married and returned to Michigan to start their family. He took a job as a tool and die specialist at General Motors and provided a strong and stable beginning for his new family.
Six years and 4 kids later, Peter’s love for the outdoors and wide open spaces that he developed as a child would draw him to pack the family up and move to Montana. Here his entrepreneurial spirit would lead him to create the family garage door business, Lipka Door Co. The wilds of Montana offered many terrific adventures from living on top of a mountain to hunting big game on horseback.
In 1988, he took his knowledge and skills to Seattle, WA and started working with Davis Door Co. As many family members eventually migrated west, as well, to settle in the Seattle area, his wish to always have family (and lots of it) close by and together was fulfilled. He enjoyed weekend road trips to the mountains and coast, family game nights, going out to Mariners games, fishing trips with his buddies, and hunting trips with his family. He retired from Davis Door in 2012.
Peter was a loyal, loving, and joy filled man. His dedication to family and devotion to his faith would guide him throughout his life. He loved to joke and tease with everyone, even perfect strangers. His open and engaging personality attracted laughter and put everyone at ease. He worked hard to provide a great life for his family and did so with integrity.
Peter Lipka Jr. passed away February 9th, 2023, surrounded by loved ones.
