Marian was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on July 28, 1922, the younger of two daughters born to Walter and Hertha Bruening. She lived 89 years. Marian died peacefully under Hospice care on December 13 after a major stroke.
Marian was an RN and held both a Bachelor’s Degree and Masters in Health Education. She was the Inservice Education Director at Everett General Hospital (now Providence Colby Campus) from the mid-60’s to the early 80’s.
Marian was predeceased by her parents, her older sister, Helen, her husbands Walter Brandstetter and George Nelson, her daughter, Eloise and her step-son-in-law, Dave Anderson. She is survived by her sons and their wives, Gary and Gretchen, and Paul and Gale Brandstetter, her grandchildren – Phil, Anne (Matt Hendrickson), Michael (Sarah), Curt, Katy and Meredith, and two infant great-granddaughters, Elin and Evelyn, as well as her stepson and his wife, Gene and Karen Nelson, her step-daughter, Mona Anderson, her five step-grandchildren and their husbands, Kris (Matt Spathas), Kim, Karen (Tim Thiers) Scott and Mark and 8 step-great grandchildren.
The family wishes to express their thanks and admiration for the Snohomish EMT’s, Providence Hospital’s doctors and nurses in the Emergency Department, 7th Floor Cardiac and 6th Floor Critical Care Departments, as well as Hospice. We are in awe of their compassion and professionalism. Their names are too numerous to list but we know and will remember them.
There will be a memorial service celebrating Marian’s life at Christ the King Lutheran Church at 1305 Pine Avenue, Snohomish, on Tuesday December 20, 2011 at 3 p.m. Marian suggested memorials to Hospice of Snohomish County, the Everett Animal Rescue Foundation, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or a charity of one’s choice.
