August 31, 1931 - November 17, 2017
Esther Joanne(Smith) Green, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus and all of her family and friends that passed on before her.
Joanne was born on August 31, 1931 to Frank Byron Smith and Mary Martha Schulz Smith. The day after her birth a newspaper article said “Baby Born in Speeding Car”! Her mom was trying to finish canning the last of the summer’s harvest of peaches before leaving home for the hospital… they didn’t make it so Joanne was born somewhere between Reardan and Spokane Washington in the back seat of the car!
Joanne enjoyed her youth growing up in an apple orchard in Wenatchee, Washington. After graduating from high school in 1949 she spent some time in nurse’s training in Spokane where on a blind date, she met the love of her life, Johnny Green! They were married on November 1, 1953. Together in marriage for 50+ years they traveled extensively during John’s service to our country as a distinguished member of the US Air Force. In 1977, they settled in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Eventually building a beautiful log home with an astounding view in the hills of Snohomish as their final residence.
Joanne was an extremely talented crochet artist. She has blessed so many of her family and friends with lasting heirlooms of her spectacular handiwork. She was recognized by the National Grange as the overall winner in crocheted tablecloths in the 80’s. For many years she entered multiple crocheted doilies, wall hangings, angels and other pieces at The Evergreen State Fair and the Washington State Fair where she usually took home Champion distinctions and many blue ribbons and class winners.
Yet another endeavor in Joanne’s life was dog training. She and Sandra ventured far and wide training and showing their dogs in obedience, conformation and agility. There were Shelties, Pointers and a very special Dachshund that warmed the hearts of Joanne and John over the years.
Joanne is survived by sons Rick (Cathy), Ron (Bonnie); daughters Susan (Jim) and Sandra; grandchildren Ron Jr, Jennifer, Krystal, Shannon, Brendan, Kyle, Mackenzie, Ciara and Lily; great-grandchildren Ariella, Caleb, Raylie and Brinley; numerous nieces, nephews and special family friends. She was preceded in death by her husband John Green, parents Byron and Mary Martha Smith, brother Russell Smith, sisters Norma Smith and Mary Jane Meek.
Please join us in a celebration of Joanne’s life on Sunday, Dec 3rd, 2017, 11:30 AM at Snohomish United Methodist Church, 6202 99th Ave SE, Snohomish Washington.
