Yvonne Ermilyn Brown was born on August 30, 1957, on a lovely day in Thornton, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, to Erline and Septimus Brown. She grew up in a multifamily house with children from both her mother and father, as well as several cousins. Septimus Brown, her first love, died when she was 11 years old, and she had to stand up as a big sister to her younger siblings while Mom and her older sister went into Kingston for school and work. Life was difficult, but she made it work with her open heart, ingenuity, and knack for cracking jokes. It wasn't until one day at Hagley Park SDA Church that she met and fell in love with her future life partner, Ira Thomas. It was a wonderful relationship, so much so that shortly after, they were expecting their first child. Ira and Yvonne had to make some difficult choices about how to nurture and safeguard their children. Even though life was difficult, they uprooted their lives and relocated to the United States to start over. She soon made new acquaintances by sharing her passion for hospitality, brightening the hearts of everyone she met. She moved to Georgia, where she spent the remainder of her life inspiring everyone she met. Unfortunately, in 2017, she discovered a lump in her breast, launching her into a struggle with cancer. Unfortunately, she lost her struggle and passed on January 18, 2023, leaving behind her husband Ira and four children, including Gregory, Orlando, Rayon, Henri Thomas, and a host of other loved ones who will miss her very much.
A memorial service for Yvonne will be held Sunday, February 5, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Eternal Hills Funeral Home and Cremation, 3594 Stone Mountain Highway, Snellville, GA 30039.
