Nina Jane Gunn

Nina Jane Gunn, 78, passed away in peace and grace on November 4, 2024, in Stone Mountain, Georgia, from complications of dementia. A devout Christian, Jane—as she preferred to be called—is with the angels and her beloved mother, Opal Jeanette Gresham, and her sister, Hilda Nix.

Born on October 3, 1946, Jane grew up in Centerville, Georgia, on Zoar Church Road, attending Centerville Elementary and South Gwinnett High School. She later found her calling in finance, working as a dedicated payroll administrator and accountant at Decatur Federal, later Wachovia and then Wells Fargo. Jane made sure that workers at a number of companies received their pay and benefits; always committed to labor, she rarely took vacation time and often worked on holidays, until her retirement at 65 years of age.

Everyone who knew Jane would describe her central virtue as kindness. A dedicated mother and wife, Jane did it all: working for pay, raising her son, cooking, cleaning, exercising after work, and caring for numerous pets, such as hamsters, fish, dogs, cats. No stranger to childhood hardship, Jane made sure every living person or animal she encountered felt their worth in her affection.

Jane’s Christian faith was important to her, and she attended both Rockbridge Baptist Church and Zoar Methodist Church in her early life. Jane delighted in hobbies including scrapbooking, listening (and cleaning) to music, and caring for her family and friends. She is survived by her devoted son, Joshua Gunn; her much adored niece, Kathy Thompson; and her beloved cousins, Terry and Judy Freeman. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her spouse, Dan Gunn, and her sister, Hilda Nix. A service to celebrate Jane’s life will be held at Eternal Hills Funeral Home in Snellville, Georgia, on Monday, November 11, at 1:00 p.m. A closed-casket visitation precedes the service, beginning at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a cat or dog rescue organization of your choice, honoring Jane’s love for animals.
