Debbie Leach Kemp, 70, of Grayson, GA, passed away on March 24th after an extended battle with leukemia.
Debbie was born on August 15, 1952 to Dempsey and Joyce Leach in Atlanta, Ga. After graduating from Cross Keys High School in 1970, she went on to get her associate degree in child development from Dekalb Technical College.
In the fall of 1970, she met James Michael Kemp. They wed in September of 1971, and were blessed with one child, Kristy in December of 1989.
After graduating, she worked at Georgia Power as an executive assistant. She worked there for twenty years, leaving when Kristy was four to be a stay-at-home mom. She spent her days volunteering in the media center at the elementary and middle schools and her weekends attending travel softball games.
She was also a loving grandmother, known to her grandchildren as Mema. Over the last few years, she loved helping take care of “her babies.”
Debbie is preceded in death by her parents, Dempsey and Joyce Leach and her sister, Deon Barrett. She is survived by her husband, Mike Kemp, her daughter, Kristy Summers, her three grandchildren, Zachary, Kayleigh, and Rhys Summers, and her sister, Deirdre Forbes.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Highlands Presbyterian Church in Grayson, Ga on Saturday, April 22nd at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Highlands Presbyterian Church in Debbie’s name.
