Clarence, Uncle Clarence, Grandpa, Pops, Dad, as he was so loving called, born July 8th, 1924: He was the first son and 4th child of Christianna Heron-Glegg-Black (also known as Josephine or Ms. Christie). He was born in the district of Cocoa Walk in South Manchester and attended the Grove Town All Age School. He lived in South Manchester to his late teens.
His mother (Ms. Christie) was a world traveler and as such he migrated to the USA in 1944, there he continued his education. A union carpenter by trade he became a naturalized citizen on December 1st. 1955. Clarence met his first wife Cecily Bernice Young from Manchester Jamaica W.I. and enjoyed a wonderful marriage for 30 years until her sunset on Oct. 28th, 1973. Clarence met his second wife Carmen Avril Bethune from Port Antonio Portland Jamaica. He also enjoyed a wonderful marriage for 36 years until her sunset on November 11, 2015.
He was the proud father to 5 children (4 boys and 1 girl): Roy, Gregory, Denise, Michael and Peter: grandfather to Gregory Jr, Christopher, Cecily, Althea, Conroy, Michael Jr, Ashley, and Dominica: great grandfather to Christian and Grayson. He had many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly, to name a few: Paulette, Tony, Dannieth, Olive, Princess, Avery, Michael, Peggy, Conroy and Pat. Clarence had been a father figure to countless others. Many friends have gone before him but for those that remain Wendell Cammack, Audley Clarke and numerous others his presence will be greatly missed.
For Clarence, family was very important, he was close to all his siblings and maintained very strong family ties. He was a great father and provider for his children and family, a hard worker by nature with a fun loving and kind demeanor. He was also very mischievous in a good way, he took life in stride and was most often seen later in life with his cigar in tow. He lived his life to the fullest, always with a smile on his face. He believed strongly that laughter was the cure for everything. He will be missed by children, grandchildren, family and friends, his kindness touched all who crossed path with him. May his soul be at peace and the light shine upon him.
