Byron Jones was born in Jacksonville, Florida on October 13, 1932 to Homer Jackson Jones and Pansy Clyde Corn. He attended the Birmingham Conservatory of Music and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He served in the Air Force (1951-1955) in the Air Police Squadron during the Korean War and was stationed in Saudi Arabia.
He was a gifted musician and spent 40 years in music ministry, serving at Southside UMC in Jacksonville, Trinity UMC in Atlanta, Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church in Lilburn, Loganville Baptist Church in Loganville, Smyrna Presbyterian Church in Covington and McKendree UMC in Lawrenceville. Through his music, he expressed the love of God and the gospel of Christ. He was also a talented landscaper with a love of nature, a wood craftsman and an ardent sailor.
He and his wife, Valliere, would have been married 51 years in October. He was devoted to his family and had a deep appreciation for his friends.
He is survived by his wife, Valliere Jones, sister, Muriel James, six children, eleven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
