Beverly is predeceased by her parents, James Walker and Rosa Stevens Walker and her husband Johnny M. Worrell, her two daughters Stephanie Kay Worrell and Rae Jonneen Worrell-Loisel, and her oldest sister, Betty Montgomery.
Beverly was born in Pensacola Florida on July 1st, 1936, was educated in Escambia County School System. She was a member of Bethel AME Church in Pensacola from a young age, until she got married and relocated.
Beverly graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. She then earned her undergraduate degree Social Work from Florida A&M University, Tallahassee, and subsequently received her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Atlanta University. They were an Airforce Military family until 1971. They were stationed in numerous places and lived in many States and countries before Johnny retired and they decided to settle in Atlanta.
Beverly loved to cook and bake and experimented with different foods. She created many items including an extra-large corn bread muffin with collard greens and ham chunks in the middle. It was called “Muffin De Soul”. This led to her opening up two businesses, one In Greenbrier Mall and the Underground Atlanta called “Puffin Muffin”, where eventually she and Alyce Chapin wrote her cookbook titled “Meals in A Muffin.” The restaurant was a hit. She made yeast bread rolls, broccoli cheese rolls, chili muffins, and Bev’s best blueberry muffins. She created all types of desserts. The fruit cocktail muffin was extremely popular. The business was very successful until she decided to close.
As a member of Mount Paran Church she was active in the choir singing in the alto section. She was known for being one of the favorite bakers with the help of Sister Alyce Kimball for the Annual Fundraising Choir Bake Sale event. She loved to extend a hand to whoever needed it in the choir and was known among her choir peers for her generosity and wise sense of humor.
Beverly was the mother of two daughters; the late Stephanie K. Worrell and the late Rae J. Worrell Loisel who both passed away from sickle cell disease.
She is survived by her grand-daughter, Gabrielle Loisel, Belmont NC, Sister Alyce Kimball, Atlanta (Bernard), Brother James Walker, Atlanta, Step-son Shelton Worrell, Winston-Salem, Beverly Williams, niece and her conservator, (her husband Levoyd) Harriet Williams, niece, Dempsey Montgomery, nephew (Nancy), Atlanta, Dwight Montgomery, nephew, Pensacola, a special best friend, Hazel Arellano and her daughters, Atlanta, and a host of other relatives and friends.
