Anne Elizabeth Snell Crosby, 93, passed away peacefully at the Abbey Hospice facility in Social Circle, Georgia on January 15, 2016. Anne was born on April 27, 1922 in Decatur, GA, the eldest child of James Hicks and Katie Lee Snell. Anne grew up in Decatur and Atlanta and graduated from Commercial High School in 1940. After graduation, Anne married Joe Howard Crosby on March 6, 1942 (whom he lovingly called "Toots"), before Joe entered the Navy in World War II. During the war, Anne worked as a transcriptionist for an Army officer. After the war, Anne and Joe settled in Atlanta where they raised their children, Joe Howard, Jr., Tommye Anne and James Allen. In 1963 the family moved to Stone Mountain, Georgia, where Anne was a stay-at-home mother.
Anne enjoyed painting, gardening, ceramics, music and was a gifted seamstress. She made dresses for Miss Georgia contestants, as well as sewing for individuals. She was especially talented in interior design, and made window treatments for office buildings and for homes in Atlanta. She later operated an antiques and design shop in Loganville, GA. Anne was actively involved in a music club and played both the piano and organ beautifully. In her later life, she still enjoyed sewing for herself, playing her keyboard and reading mysteries, especially Agatha Christie novels.
In 1973, Anne and Joe moved to Loganville, GA. They built 3 homes in the area, which Anne decorated. After suffering a fall in early 2015, Anne moved to Southern Plantation Assisted Living. She was very fond of the staff and enjoyed their daily visits.
Anne was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Joe, in 2011; and by her parents James Hicks, who died in 1986 and her mother Katie Lee, who died in 1993.She is also preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Doris Snell.
Anne is survived by her son, Joe of Merritt Island, FL; daughter and son-in-law, Tommye Anne and Rick Armstrong of Loganville; son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Renee Crosby of Loganville; and by her brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Joanne Snell of Loganville. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A funeral celebration will be held at Eternal Hills Funeral Home in Snellville, GA on Monday, January 18, 2016 at 2 PM. The family will be greeting friends and relatives one hour before the service.
