John was born on December 25, 1950 in Norristown, PA, raised by the late Francis and Alverda Gerhart of Sellersville, PA, the son of Barbara Lee Greenberg and the late Stanley Cichocki.
He graduated from Collegeville-Trappe High School in the class of 1968 and married Betty Fetterman, his high school sweetheart, on July 10, 1970 in PA. John entered the United States Air Force in 1968 serving until 1972. For the past 30 years, John ran his own business, Carriage House Upholstery, in Norridgewock, ME working on classic cars and doing custom upholstery for, not only all types of vehicles, but also interior furnishings for a few Maine restaurants and residences.
A devoted Christian, John attended the Rome Baptist Church in Rome, ME. He was a loving, loyal husband who enjoyed traveling with his wife, Betty, most recently for a Christmas trip to Vienna, Austria. After their first two children were born, John and Betty traveled extensively with them throughout the country, providing many wonderful memories of America’s National Parks and more. John also enjoyed building things and restoring antique cars. So much of his time was devoted to helping Betty and their boys, whether it was, building decks, garages, or even wood-fired ceramic kilns in the backyard. John was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone and is already sorely missed by all of his family and friends.
John is survived by his wife, Betty, of 39 years; sons Ben Cichocki and fiancé Melissa Tilton of Saugus, MA; Tim Cichocki and fiancé Kim Wilson of Portland, ME, and Adam Cichocki and fiancé Natalie Thomson of Madison, ME, sister Barbara Schwenk and husband Marshall of Machipongo, VA, brother Michael Cichocki and stepmother Patricia Cichocki of Galena, MD, many nieces and nephews.
