Elizabeth Leona Buzzell, at 86 was called into the presence of her God and Savior on April 1, 2017. She was born in Athens, Maine, on August 3, 1930 the daughter of Lyman and Mildred (Braley) Buzzell.
She attended the Coston Corner School and Somerset Academy of Athens, Maine. Elizabeth was a caring, giving person who over the years was a devoted caregiver to members of her family and many others. She was a homemaker to her brothers and father. She took care of the home and made sure after work they set down to a country style meal with plenty of hot biscuits, pies, etc.
She was never married, but at seventeen took on the responsibility of raising her newborn nephew because of the sickness and death of his mother. In her last months of life she often mentioned this aspect of her life, and said she would do it all over again.
Over the years she enjoyed sewing, cooking, and gardening. In the winter months she did a lot of reading and loved to put puzzles together.
She worked fifteen years at the Delong Sportswear, Inc., in Harmony, Maine making sportswear products.
In the years before her health failed she lived with her brother, Lewis, and they enjoyed those years together. They had a special bond, each helping the other. In her lifetime served unselfishly putting the needs of others before herself. At times in this life it seems she never got the recognition she deserved. The Lord has seen her labors. In these last months she had a sweet spirit of trust in the Lord.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents, an infant brother, Earnest, her brothers, Lawrence L. Buzzell, and Charles S. Buzzell.
She is survived her brother Lewis A. Buzzell and her nephew, Albert C. Buzzell and his wife Margaret of Canaan, several cousins and special friends. Barbara Starbird was a life-long neighbor and special friend.
Robert and Jean Turnbull and Sharon and Scott Carr were also special friends. She was known as “Auntie” by the Hall Family who were close neighbors.
The family expresses appreciation to all the staff at the Sanfield Living Center in Hartland, Maine, for their loving care and devoted service in keeping Elizabeth comfortable during her six month stay. Their love and devotion to her care is much appreciated.
A graveside service will be held later in the spring at the Mount Rest Cemetery in Athens, Maine, with Rev. Kevin Brooks of Canaan Calvary Church will officiate the service.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine.
