Margaret Angela Ama Attipoe

April 19, 1958 - October 31, 2022

Margaret Angela Ama Nyuitor Attipoe was born on April 19, 1958 in Accra, Ghana to the late Mr & Mrs. Peter Claver Bloomfield and Victoria Awoonor-Williams Attipoe.

In Ghana she attended Christ the King International School and later transferred to St. Theresa’s School in Kaneshie to complete her primary schooling. Angela continued her education at Holy Child School, a premier second-cycle Catholic institution in Cape Coast, Ghana, where she obtained her GCE Ordinary and Advanced Level certifications in 1978. She showed a particular talent for language and so she enrolled in the University of Ghana, Legon and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in French and Linguistics in 1982.

After completing her tertiary education in Ghana, Angela was employed at the Embassy of Thailand in Dakar, Senegal as Secretary to the Ambassador. She subsequently relocated to the USA and settled in the Maryland area to pursue her career with the Diplomatic Corps at the Embassy of Burkina Faso before joining the World Bank Group in 1990.

As an Operations Analyst and a Pod Lead within the World Bank Group, Angie excelled within the Staff Records Unit of the Human Resources Operations Department. She led the World Bank’s effort to digitize staff records, moving her unit from paper to paperless. This earned her an honorable mention and Lifetime Achievement Award during the 2020 Information Management Awards for managing HR records. Angie’s whole term of service with the World Bank Group was with her beloved HR-Operations team until her retirement which was in progress before her passing after 32 years of service.

Ama was the eldest girl of the household. She displayed an early passion for cooking that was inspired by the culinary traditions of her mother and grandmother, whom she was named after. By the age of 9, she had been entrusted to buy food stuff from the market in Accra and cook for the entire family. Cooking evolved into her love language and her diplomacy, despite the occasional friendly teasing from her siblings that her meals were too spicy for them to handle! Over the years, the perfection of her craft yielded many creations, from her inimitable yellow mushroom rice to her signature “zoo” okra soup amongst countless others. While our recollections of these dishes may become obscured with time, the love that Ama’s cooking conveyed will never fade from our hearts.

To God, she was “Nyuitor”- ‘the Good One.’ After her mother’s passing, she treasured the wisdom and lessons imparted to her in her upbringing. As a young girl, she developed an unshakable moral compass. Ama was a devout Catholic. She centered her faith both in times of prosperity and hardship. Most importantly, she understood the value of “giving from one’s nothingness” very much like her mother before her. Over the years, she invited most of us to her tables of food, fun and feast and it was always a work of her love. Angela is the kind soul who looked to improve the lot of others, who cherished friends, sisters, and brothers with one single kindness. Truly, Angie’s joy of being a mother was the joy of giving to all; its responsibilities were her life, hope, and love.

Whether personal or professional, Angie’s friendships and relationships were cultivated with innumerable acts of kindness, service and devotion and those values endeared her to every person she encountered. Angela’s beautiful life will be cherished and renowned for her magnificence, her style and zest for all things beautiful. She made the gaudy elegant. Whether it was place-settings for dinner or attire for chilling, partying, or work, she was always styled most appropriately. When it came to meeting dignitaries during their state visits to Accra or simply for pomp and circumstance, Angela always looked her best!

We will think of her always, we will still talk about her, and she will never be forgotten; we will hold her close to our hearts to walk and guide us through our lives until we meet again.

Nyuitor cultivated her riches in heaven. We find peace and comfort with the knowledge that she has been called to God to reap in the rewards of her bounty.
