John M. Shober, age 54, of Gaithersburg, MD passed away on Tuesday, June 21st, 2022 surrounded by family and friends. John was born January 17th, 1968 in Silver Spring, to Richard and Barbara Shober. He was the older of two sons.
John graduated from Atholton High School in Columbia, MD in 1985. After high school, John began a career in the hospitality industry, working at some of the most iconic resorts in the country as the Director of Engineering, including the Hotel Hershey in Hershey, PA; the Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, VA; and Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in Farmington, PA. Over the course of his career, John obtained many industry certifications and earned multiple awards and certificates of recognition. In his spare time, John was passionate about music, in particular progressive rock. John had a near encyclopedic knowledge of 100s of artists and albums and loved sharing his knowledge of music trivia and new bands with all who knew him. Another passion of John’s was traveling and spending time outside. John was a certified S.C.U.B.A diver and logged well over 100 dives in some of the most beautiful locales on earth.
While working at the Homestead, John met his future wife, Emily Marie Lilly, and they were married in 2020.
John is survived by his wife, Emily; uncles, Robert and Walter Shober; cousins,Steven, Susan and Charles Shober; nephews, Luke and Tyrus Shober; step-father and mother, John and Barbara Fisher; and brother and sister-in-law, David and Karen Shober.
A gathering for John will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, 11800 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland 20904.
