George was born in Chekka, Lebanon to Chalita Youssef Atallah and Machaallah Salim Abi Shaleh. He is the third oldest and only son of nine children.
George came to the United States in his early twenties to pursue higher education, graduating from SUNY Buffalo with a BS, MS and ABD degree in Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace and SUNY Binghamton with a Ph.D in Advanced Technology.
He had a successful career spanning 35+ years and a gamut of roles from engineer to professor to Chief Technology Officer with prestigious businesses and institutions such as Westinghouse, IBM, Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, and University of Maryland.
He enjoyed playing soccer and passing that love on to his children, fowl hunting, fishing with friends on the Bay, and cooking Lebanese dishes for all to enjoy. Most of all he enjoyed being around his family, of recent especially his young grandchildren.
George is survived by his wife, Sandra; children Paula (Matt), Chalita (Christine), and Katie (Kyle); and grandchildren Michaela, Chance, Jordan, Avery, Carson, Ryan, and Chloe.
Visitation will be held at the Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, 11800 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, MD where funeral services will be held on Friday, December 31, 2021 at 10:00 AM.
Interment to follow at Union Cemetery, 3001 Spencerville Road, Burtonsville, Maryland 20866.
