Carole Acken Copeland of Silver Spring, MD passed away on Monday, October 2, 2017. Carole was born September 8, 1943 in Takoma Park, MD to Lucille and Joseph Acken. As a young lady, Carole developed her passion for competing in local pageants, becoming Miss Potomac, 1962. In 1963, Carole met and started dating the love of her life, Louis Corrado Copeland. They married three months later. Carole eventually pursued her passion of the stage and acting by enrolling in the esteemed Hartke Conservatory at Catholic University. Carole acted in many plays and movies in the Washington Metropolitan area and was a member of the Screen Actors Guild until her death. She was an avid horseman and competed in Three Day Events and Dressage. Carole is most remembered for her unyielding love and commitment to animals - especially her beloved horses and cats. Carole was very devoted and active within the animal rescue community. Carole is survived by her husband, Louis and son Paul (Colleen Coffey); cherished grandmother to Elizabeth and Christian. Also survived by her sister Marilyn Filkins (Tom) of Wyoming and numerous loving relatives, nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may visit with the family at Hines Rinaldi, 11800 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, on Saturday, October 7, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to ASPCA.
