Born June 16, 1933, in Whitten, AR., to the late James and Mildred Alred Savage.
On October 21, 1950 in Bay, AR., she married Cecil Adams who preceded her in death on November 27, 2006.
Vernell worked at National Lock and performed childcare for many years. She enjoyed bowling, singing and listening to Gospel music. She was a member of Matthews Baptist Church in Matthews, MO. In 2014 she was selected Nursing home queen in Sikeston and went on to place second in the region at Cape Girardeau, MO.
Survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene and Ethel Adams of Sikeston,MO., and David and Betty Adams of Port St. Lucie,FL.;one daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Jim Davis of Sikeston,MO.; two sisters, Mae Staten of Truman, AR., and Wease Duvall of Truman, AR.; seven grandchildren, Jason Davis of Sikeston,MO., Lindsey Bauer of Sikeston, MO., Michael Adams of Crockett, TX., Brian Adams of Sikeston,MO., Jody Adams of Dexter, MO., Cherik Griffin of New Madrid, MO., and Alicia Bitter of Cape Girardeau, MO.; 21 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a special niece and her family, Bambi and Mike Rhodes and their children Brittney Dirnburger and Michael Rhodes all of Oran, MO.
She was preceded in death by: four brothers, six sisters, and one great grandchild.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 27, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. until the time of funeral service at 5:00 p.m. at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston,MO.,with Jason Davis, grandson and pastor of Anchor Church in Sikeston, MO., and Bro. Chris Polk, pastor of Matthews Missionary Baptist Church in Matthews, MO., officiating. A private interment will be held Tuesday, March 28,2017 at Memorial Park cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Drew Bauer, Lonnie Polk, Jody Adams, Brian Adams, Tim Bitter and Jim Davis
Honorary Pallbearers will be : Kenneth Duvall, Danny Staggs and Gary Brown.
