Born July 6, 1922 in Fulton, MO. to the late Ethel Haley Frank and John Walker Frank.
After graduating from William Woods College in Fulton, MO., she continued her education by graduating from St. Luke’s Nursing School in St. Louis, MO. where she was president of her class through 1944. She joined the faculty at Barnes School of Nursing (Washington University) until 1946 when she married Edward C. Matthews Jr. of Sikeston, MO. on June 8, 1946. She moved to Sikeston and at that time became a member of the First United Methodist Church.
She was the first person to take CPR training in its beginning. After earning her Instructor’s rating, she gave many classes that certified countless others to become instructors and EMT’s. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years, a Cub Scout leader, and camp nurse at Camp Latonka. She served on the Red Cross Board of the Sikeston Chapter, Woman’s Club of Sikeston and P.E.O.
She and her husband Edward began spending winters in Naples, FL. In 1986 and continued to do so up until the time of his death in July, 2012.
They had been married 66 years.
Survivors include one daughter, Peggy Lee Matthews of Sikeston; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Edward Calvin Matthews III and wife Sarah of Sikeston, MO., and Philip Frank Matthews and wife Debbie of Chapin, SC.; three grandsons and one granddaughter-in-law, Edward Calvin Matthews IV and wife Sarah Ann of St. Louis, Jonathan Lee Matthews of Las Angeles, CA., and Grant Michael Matthews of Kansas City, MO.; one granddaughter, Lauren Mosley Snider and husband Christopher of Cape Girardeau, MO.; three great grandchildren, Maria Bella Matthews and Edward Calvin Matthews V of St. Louis, MO.,Michael Price Snider and Matthew Lee Snider of Cape Girardeau, MO.
A private graveside service will be held Saturday May 9, 2020 with Jennifer Moxley, officiating.
