Ruby Searcy Bush, longtime resident of Shreveport, passed away peacefully in McKinney, TX on July 30, 2018 at the age of 99. Mrs. Bush was born in Baskin, LA on November 07, 1918 to Maudine Vaughn and Charles Allen Searcy and moved to Shreveport at an early age. She attended Atkins Elementary School and graduated from C. E. Byrd High School.
Mrs. Bush was a former employee of Shreveport Parks and Recreation where she taught tap dance for many years in downtown Shreveport and Betty Virginia Park. She dedicated the latter half of her life volunteering, until the very end as an entertainer, pianist, dance instructor and loving friend for countless senior citizens in Shreveport, Bossier and McKinney, TX where she has lived for the past eighteen years. Her indefatigable spirit, lucidity and sense of goodwill were admired by many.
Mrs. Bush is survived by daughters, Nancy Bush Griffin of McKinney, TX; Becky Bush of Shreveport; sons, Carlos “Buddy” Bush and wife Patricia of Cypress, TX; Charles Searcy Bush and Candi Fawley of Shreveport; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Bush was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Latrelle Bush; daughter, Rosemary Bush; son, William Hardy “Bill” Bush; sister, Murrell Searcy Porter and a brother, Charles Detroit Searcy, all of Shreveport.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 4, 2018, 2:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Park with a visitation starting at 1:00 PM Saturday at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home.
