Lois Smith Curtis passed away on Dec. 24, 2018 at Lafayette General Medical Center. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Centuries Memorial Chapel at 1:00 pm on Friday, December 28, 2018. A visitation will be held before the service beginning at 12:00 pm. A burial will be held following the services at Centuries Memorial Park.
Ms. Curtis was born on September 5, 1926 in Pleasanton, TX, but spent most of her childhood in Little Rock, AR, until the age of 15 when her parents moved to Shreveport, LA. Ms. Curtis was a graduate of Fair Park High School and obtained her bachelor’s degree at Centenary College. She later attended Louisiana State University where she earned a Masters of Education. She married Charles R. Curtis in 1949 and they moved to Lafayette, LA where they raised their two sons. They returned to Shreveport in 1969; divorced in 1974 but remained friends until he died in 1982.
Ms. Curtis taught school in both Lafayette and Shreveport until retiring in 1980. She enjoyed reading, learning, and living a simple life. She was warm hearted, conscientious, and deeply devoted to her family.
Preceding her in death were her parents Leonard G. Smith, Sr. and Agnes Lebeck Smith; brothers Leonard G. Smith, Jr. and Roy R. W. Smith of Shreveport; sister Lenora Smith Miller of Zwolle; and her beloved sons Ransom H. Curtis and Danton W. Curtis of Keithville, LA.
Surviving her are her grandson Ransom C. Curtis and fiancee Amber Barfield and granddaughter Sonya Curtis Mier both of Lafayette, LA; 3 nieces and a nephew; and 8 cherished great grandchildren: Skylar, Janie, Ashley, and Charlie Curtis; Cade and London Barfield, Emily and Brennan Mier.

We would also like to thank Rhonda Curtis and the nurses and other support professionals at Amedisys Home Health and Dr. Kelly Cahill for the thorough care and support during these last few months.
