Kaylee Rene’ Campbell, 20, entered into the arms of Jesus, her Lord and Savior, on Thursday, September 14, 2023 after a courageous 3-year battle with cancer. Kaylee was born in Shreveport, LA on February 21, 2003 to Jay and Kim Campbell.
She is preceded in death by her father, Jay Campbell, maternal grandfather Joseph Leone, and paternal grandfather Butch Campbell.
She is survived by her mom and best friend, Kim Leone Campbell Cooper, step-dad Allen Cooper, brothers Tyler and Chance Campbell, step-siblings Hayley Cooper McGurk and Zack Cooper, maternal grandmother, Verda Leone, paternal grandmother, Melba Jean Campbell, her fur babies, Ace and Obi, close relatives including Kenny and Cherie Leone, Stephen and Shannon Leone, Ben and Susan Burkett, Jeff and Casey Campbell, and numerous cousins and other close relatives and sweet friends.
Kaylee was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer during her senior year at C.E. Byrd in 2020. Despite her illness, she was able to complete her senior year and graduate in 2021. She began her studies at LSUS while undergoing intense treatments at both St Jude in Memphis and Shreveport, but was unable to continue them due to her battle.
It was evident at an early age that Kaylee had a very kind heart and loved others well. She was a unique, creative, and beautiful free spirit who touched so many lives. Her motto was “treat people with kindness” and she lived by that everyday. She was a gifted artist in many areas, including drawing and painting, but was most passionate about make-up artistry. Kaylee had a larger inventory of cosmetics than some Sephora stores. Kaylee loved Disney, Harry Styles, and mostly hanging with her friends and her little cousins, who adored her.
Kaylee was a member of Summer Grove Baptist Church. She asked Jesus Christ into her heart and was baptized on October 8, 2016. Although we have all been praying for her healing on earth, God’s will was to heal her in Heaven. Now, she is healed and rejoicing in the presence of Jesus with her Dad, Grandpas, and other family.
A graveside service will be held at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Rd., Shreveport, LA 71108 on Sunday, September 17, 2023 at 3:00 pm. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
Kaylee’s favorite holiday was Christmas, so if you’d like to give an ornament in memory of her, there will be a collection box at the graveside.
Our heartfelt thanks goes out to Team Kaylee for your many prayers over these past 3 years. Kaylee had a wonderful team of caregivers including Dr. Jeroudi, Dr. Wadhwa, Dr. Wang, Dr. Self, and the wonderful staff at St Jude in Memphis, St Jude in Shreveport, Willis-Knighton Cancer Center, and Ochsner St Mary’s.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital or Summer Grove Baptist Church.
