Jerry Dean Warren Jr. was born on May 29, 1958 in Shreveport, LA. Dean passed into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 3, 2015 surrounded by his loving family after a long and courageous battle with leukemia. He was truly a warrior and fought the good fight until the very end. Dean was a 1976 graduate of Woodlawn High School where he was a three year letterman in both football and baseball. He went on to study physical education at Northwestern State University where he graduated in 1980. He was an avid lover of all sports and the outdoors and loved to coach sports throughout his career working for both the Desoto and Caddo Parish School Boards. Dean spent much of his career at Walnut Hill Middle School where he helped the Hornets win many disctrict and city championships in both football and track during his time there. He was also an avid reader of all subjects, but he especially loved western fiction and all types of history. Dean grew up in Sunset Acres Baptist Church under the guidance of Dr. Charles Harvey and Brother Gary Melancon and he truly loved the Lord. The light of his life was spending time with his grandchildren and he loved to spend time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Surcie Warren and grandmother Hazel Boyter Warren Martin and maternal grandfathers Gove Keene and Armon Dring and grandmother Keitha Cowart Keene Dring Stouffer.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife and high school sweetheart of 35 years, Betsy Warren and son Jerry Dean Warren, III and his wife Amanda along with grandchildren Jonah and Sarah, his parents Jerry Dean Warren Sr. and Jimmye Warren, his brother Don Warren and his wife Jennifer, brother Dale Warren and his wife Meredith, brother Daren Warren Sr. and his wife Susan, and sister Jill Boothe and her husband Kevin. He is also survived by many dear nieces and nephews and a whole host of cousins and extended family that will miss him dearly.
There is a visitation planned for Monday July 6, 2015 from 6 to 8 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home in Shreveport, LA. Memorial services will be at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday July 7, 2015 at 2 PM with graveside services to follow on site.
Officiating will be Brother John Harp of Brookwood Baptist Church and Brother Keith Biggs of Citadel Square Baptist Church in Charleston, South Carolina.
Pallbearers will be: Don Warren, Dale Warren, Daren Warren, Jon Warren Jr., Jon Michael Compton, Michael Landis, Kevin Boothe, Joshua Warren and Mark Warren.
The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Massingill and his staff at Schumpert Cancer Treatment Center for their amazingly compassionate and wonderful care given to Dean over all these years.
The family would also like to thank Dr. Andersson and the staff at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX for all their devoted care through Dean's treatment there over many years.
The family would also like to thank the staff of Grace Home Hospice Center in Shreveport, LA for their tender and compassionate care.
