Janis was born during the Great Depression, a country girl raised in West Carroll Parish near Oak Grove, Louisiana. As a child she picked cotton alongside her grandparents uncles until she moved to Shreveport, Louisiana with her mother at the age of twelve. They resided in Cedar Grove where she later met the love of her life, Perry Carr Pittman. They were married in 1956.
Together they became member's and were baptized at the First United Pentecostal Church of Shreveport. Their union lasted sixty years and together they raised six boys. Janis was a kind and gentle spirit who Loved the Lord, she never spoke ill of anyone and would give a stranger in need her last dollar. Later in life she became a Mamaw to a tribe of grand and great grandchildren.
Family meant everything to her and she was loved by all. She was everyone's Mamaw.
She is preceded in death by her parents Eddie and Edna Winfrey, husband Perry C. Pittman,Sr., sons Mack Spears, Jr., Perry C. Pittman, Jr., daughters in law Linda Workman Spears, Kristina Myers Pittman. Left to cherish her memory are her sons Tommy Spears, Charlie Pittman, Ron Pittman, Jonathan Pittman,daughter in laws Michelle Pittman and Misty Brown and numerous grand and great grandchildren.
A visitation for Janis will be held Monday, July 10, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home & Park, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. Pastor Damon Magee of Kings Temple will be officiating. Interment will be at Centuries Memorial Park. Honoring the family as pallbearers will be Edwin Spears, Colby Brown, Chris Pittman, Matt Brown, Tory Pittman and Matthew Swaine.
