Shreveport, LA Helen Margaret Weaver Ivey, lovingly known as Granny, was born November 17, 1925, in Goldonna, LA. She grew up there with her five brothers, W.J., Lloyd, Cecil, Melvin, and Marvin Weaver. After graduating from Goldonna High School, she went to work for the Telephone Company in Shreveport until she married Joe Marshall Ivey, in 1962 and gave up the business world to become a full-time wife and mother. Granny was an active member in several of the Baptist churches in West Shreveport. Her faith was a very important part of her life and at her death she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greenwood. She served her churches in many ways but her favorite was as a Sunday School teacher for the primary department children. She greatly missed ministering to others by cooking, visiting, or praying after blindness hindered her ability to drive many years ago.
Services celebrating her life will be in the chapel of Centuries Memorial Funeral Home at 2 PM on Wednesday August 31st. Interment will follow at Algoma Cemetery in Marshall, Texas. Officiating will be Dr. Kenny Joyner. Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 30th from 5:00 to 7:00 at Centuries Memorial. Granny is preceded in death by her parents, J. T. (Buddy) Weaver and Della Pierce Weaver, her brothers, W.J., Lloyd, Cecil and Marvin Weaver, sister Bonnie Earl, her deceased husband of over 50 years, Joe Marshall Ivey of Shreveport and granddaughter Ronna Redwine of Houston. She is survived by her son and his wife, Jerry and Lynette Ivey of Shreveport, stepchildren Reba Ivey Summers of Houston, Texas, Billy C. Ivey and wife Teresa of Shreveport. Judy Ivey Freeman and husband Jack of Stonewall, LA. She is also survived by her brother Melvin Weaver and his wife Melba of Shreveport. She was always so proud of her grandchildren: Ronny Redwine, Cole Summers, William Ivey, Brandon Ivey, Melissa Cheatham, Jason Freeman, Justin Ivey & Morgan Ivey Randel. She is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She believed in God, Faith and Family and instilled that in her family.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are grandsons: Ronny Redwine, William Ivey, Brandon Ivey, Jason Freeman, Cole Summers, Justin Ivey and grandson-in-law Connor Randel. The family can’t thank the staff of The Health Center at Live Oak enough for their loving care. Granny thrived there in her two plus years, mainly because it gave her a chance to minister to the “old people” that needed someone to pray for them or comfort them when they were in pain. Instead of flowers, we are sure Granny would be honored by a memorial to her church or to the church of your choice.
