Graveside services for Gloria Heflin Sedlock will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at the Grange Hall Cemetery on Highway 43 South in Marshall, Texas. Gloria passed away after a brief illness on September 12, 2024.
Gloria Heflin Sedlock, the youngest of six siblings, was born to Irvin Miller Heflin and Estelle Briggs Heflin, in Dubberly, Louisiana, on September 15, 1925, and was reared in Tallulah, Louisiana, where she was a drum major in the high school band. On December 30, 1944, she married John J. Sedlock, Jr., an officer in the army air corps, and thereafter made her home in various locations, including military bases in New York and Florida. After John’s retirement from active military duty in 1965, they settled in Shreveport, Louisiana, where Gloria accepted employment as an executive assistant in the Air Force intelligence bureau until her own retirement.
Growing up during the Great Depression and World War II, Gloria learned many lessons that remained ingrained throughout her life, including thriftiness, ambition and a desire for knowledge. After recently being recognized as Resident of the Month at the Garden Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, she offered this advice: Keep learning and never stop growing!
Gloria is predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her five siblings, Hazel Heflin Coltharp, Miller Reid Heflin, Kathleen Heflin Cole, Irvin Wilson Heflin and Paul Laverne Heflin, and nephew, Pete Coltharp, who was like her little brother. Survivors include her niece, Leslie Hancock and husband David, great-nephews, Chip Coltharp and wife Lyn, and Lee Coltharp and wife Jena, along with numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Gloria’s memory to the Blalock-Grange Hall Cemetery Memorial Trust, P. O. Box 1028, Marshall, TX 75971-1028 [EIN 75-6012243].
