You and your family are in my thoughts especially at this time,  the second Anniversary of your passing.  With that in mind  I have had this memorial plaque put on a gabion that has been placed as part of a land slip supporting wall on the Esplanade at East Cowes overlooking the beautiful Solent .  It is opposite a lifebelt which I thought very appropriate knowing your trade in the RAF Doug.

Hard for me to realize Doug has been gone this long.  We were such good friends for a long time.  I still miss him, and his brother, Donnie and his mother, Nancy.  They were such lovely people, who treated me so kindly.  I loved being with them.  My thoughts are with you, Brenda. Know that you still have a friend across the pond.

We would like to express our deepest condolences to Verne on the death of John's dear cousin Douglas. 
I can remember as a child how much fun we had together playing cowboys and Indians. From this memory on, I always think of Doug as the family member with the biggest heart.  As a teenager, he was always kind and helpful to me on my visits to Bridgend.
In latter years, we saw each less but I'll never forget his keen intellect and his generosity,

I met Doug back in the 90s through a friend, Lorna Camus, and he was a very congenial person.  He came from a lovely family in Wales. Several of those family members were very hospitable to us when we paid them a visit while traveling through that part of the country.  I was sorry to hear of Doug's passing, and I wish to convey to all of his family my heartfelt sympathy. 

I am so saddened to hear the news of Doug's passing.  We were good friends for such  a long time.  His Mum, and all his family were so kind to me.  And what a fun bunch they were!  I send condolences to Vern and all his family.

Dear Doug,

My eldest Brother who I last saw many years ago in a visit back  to  Wales where we were living.

We enjoyed our trip to Louisiana  back in 2003 where we were made so welcome by Doug & Vern in there lovely home.

His health took a turn for the worse over the latter  years  and  he   suffered  for a long while ,   he  was a fighter and  battled through the storm  till at last it beat him . 

Enjoy your reunion  with  Dad  Mum and Donnie ,   I bet  you  are all    having  a   good time with   lots  of laughter and tears ,  so many things to catch up on  from over the years.

Sending  lots of love and hugs  to Vern and thank you for being there to support him over the years in his illness.

Uncle Doug

So pleased we got to see you and Vern on our last couple of trips and so sad we didn’t get one last time. 

Who now is going to set us straight on the NFL? We will be cheering on the Saints for you. 

We may have been separated by the miles and ocean over the years  but you were never far from our hearts and thoughts.

                                                                                                                                                Your courage and tenacity has been quite remarkable and in the true Ross/Brooke-Webb style, I take comfort in knowing that you are at last at peace.  Recollecting the many happy times that we, as a family,  have reminisced about your travels,  from the Far East to New Orleans and many places in between, particularly with your brother  Donnie, and all the antics you used to get up to together. I feel very honoured to have shared these moments with you and your family.
