Shreveport, LA – Services for Mrs. Clarice Mabel “Grandmama” Parks will be held at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home on June 11, 2015 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Steve Caraway and Rev. John Higginbottom officiating. Visitation will be held at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home on Wednesday June 10, 2015 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park in Shreveport, LA.
Mrs. Clarice Parks was born October 7, 1921 in Paris, Missouri to Clarence Jacob and Mabel Hoffman Shrader. She went to be with the Lord on June 6, 2015. She graduated from Lockhart High School in Lockhart, Texas. She attended Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas and graduated from Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas with a Masters in Physical Education. She then married her true love “Gilbert Alvin “Gap” Parks and they began their new life together in Vernal, Utah. Their two sons, Mike and Pat were born there. It was after moving to Shreveport, LA in 1951 their daughter Marcia was born. Clarice taught P.E. and coached at Byrd, Lakeshore and Oak Terrace. Mrs. Parks and her husband, Gap were owners of Parks Concrete for many years.
She was an active member of Mangum Memorial Methodist Church and The Parents Class. She led an exercise class and played the Bells. She loved all sports with tennis, swimming and sailing being her favorites. She also received her pilots’ license in 1944. She and “Gap” enjoyed traveling and visiting many different countries.
Grandmama was very family oriented, a devoted mother and grandmother and participated in all of her children’s activities growing up.
Mrs. Parks was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert A. Parks and son Clyde Michael Parks. Survivors include her son Patrick E. Parks; daughter Marcia A. Baldwin; granddaughters, Heather Panic and husband, Sacha; Sherry Fain, and husband Bryan, grandson, Matthew Parks and wife Katie; two great-grandchildren Shyla Ann and Tyler Fain, other relatives and many friends.
The family requests that memorials be made to Mangum Methodist Church.
