Born on September 16, 1943 to S.E. Sims and Lucille Bashaw Sims in Shreveport, Louisiana, Betty spent the majority of her young life there graduating from Fair Park High School in 1961. While in Shreveport, she attended Fair Park Christian Church, now known as Westview Christian Church. Soon after she finished high school Betty moved to Dallas, Texas where she met and married Carl Rose. To this union were born Christopher Rose and Gary Rose. Betty had many friends throughout the years and was a member of Prestonwood Baptist Church until her health made it difficult to attend. In addition, she was a talented artist and had a particular love for all things Betty Boop. In her early years she was a model and she retained that beauty the rest of her life.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents S.E. and Lucille Sims and her first husband Carl Rose. She is survived by her children Chris Rose (Kristi) of Lewisville, TX; Gary Rose (Angel) of Lantana, Texas; her siblings Stanley E. Sims (Patty); James Y. Sims and Sharon L. Sims; her grandchildren Corbin Rose and Makayla Rose; a host of nieces and nephews and her constant companion and love, Charlie the cat.
Graveside services were held at Centuries Memorial Cemetery on Friday, May 5, 2023. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made the SPCA of Dallas. The family would like to thank Phyllis who cared for Betty with such compassion and love.
“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?’” (John 11: 25-26).
She did.
