Shreveport, LA Berta Leora Adams was born May 12, 1932 to Bertram and Adabel Adams in Hall Summit, LA. She died May 11, 2014, the day before her 82nd birthday. Berta grew up and attended school in Coushatta, LA. She graduated from Northwestern State University and the University of Houston from which she earned a Master’s Degree + 30.
Berta taught kindergarten and first grade at Atkins Elementary, Queensborough Elementary and St. Teresa’s. Although she had no children of her own, she had a special way with children and made up many games and songs that children loved.
Left to adjust to her loss are her siblings, Robbie Adams Frieling of Shreveport, Addie Elizabeth (Betty) Adams Uerling (Charles) of Ft. Smith AR, and Frank J. Adams (Mary Ann Horton Adams) of West Monroe, LA; and several nieces and nephews.
Berta was a member of the Christian Center for many years and recently a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church, where she joined the Pathfinders Class and sang with the Broadmoor Singers.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 17, 2014, 2:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Rd., Shreveport, LA. Dr. Larry Williams will be officiating. Visitation with the family will be 1:00 PM until service time at the funeral home Saturday.
The family wishes to thank Emeritus, Garden Park and the sitters who helped her so much, especially Carmen Jeter and Gwen Parker who were outstanding in their care.
Memorials may be given to the Broadmoor Baptist Church Music Department or a charity of your choice.
A private graveside will be held at a later date.
