David "Buddy" Lucas

David “Buddy” Lucas, 92, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Montvue Nursing Home in Luray.
He was born on November 1, 1923 in Page County and was the son of the late Levi and Lucy Coverstone Lucas.
Buddy, as everyone knew him, served in the U. S. Army Air Force from April 1943 to January 1946 and was a member of the Avis O. Comer VFW Post #8613. He retired as a Boilermaker and enjoyed fishing and bird hunting with his English Setters.
On December 25, 1965, he married Evelyn Mae Hammer, who preceded him in death on October 14, 2014.
He is survived by two sons, David “Junebug” Lucas, of Shenandoah, Steven Lucas and wife, Sandy of Elkton; three daughters, Brenda Lam and Karen Martin, both of Shenandoah and JoAnn Cave and husband, Bobby, of Stanley; step-son, Gary Hammer, of Stanley; step-daughter, Carolyn Campbell, and husband, Carroll, of Elkton; six grandchildren, Brian Lam, Angie McDaniel, Daniel Grimsley, Amanda Adongo, Laura Kpogoh and JR Cave; seven step-grandchildren, which includes Teresa “Kildee” Burgoon; six great-grandchildren; thirteen step-great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ellen “Tink” Grimsley.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, June 28, 2016 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Lindsey-Kyger Funeral Home in Shenandoah.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at the Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Terry Wyant-Vargo officiating.
Burial will follow at Methodist Cemetery with military rites by Avis O. Comer, VFW Post #8613.
