She was born on December 20, 1916 in Sheboygan, the daughter of the late Joseph and Frances (Hildebrand) Houmes.
On June 23, 1938 Ginny was united in marriage to Wayne G. McIntyre. He preceded her in death on October 1, 1985.
She was a graduate of Sheboygan High School in 1934 and the Sheboygan County Teachers College in 1936. She later received her Bachelor’s Degree from UW-Oshkosh and a Masters Degree from UW-Milwaukee.
She started her early teaching in Sheboygan County rural schools. In later years she returned to teaching and taught at Lakeshore Technical College. She truly enjoyed teaching and all her students. She was named “Teacher of the Year” by the Wisconsin Association of Vocational and Adult Education in Madison, Wisconsin.
Ginny was a faithful and active member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist. She served as Sunday school teacher, child care, board member, and on many other committees. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, Delta Kappa Gamma (Tau and Chi Chapters), Sheboygan County Retired Teachers, Wisconsin Retired Teachers, Lakeshore Technical College Retired Teachers, Sheboygan County Museum, and AARP.
She treasured spending time with her loving family, especially with her twin great-granddaughters, her relatives, and many friends. Ginny loved to travel, read, bake, play card games, and entertain family and friends.
During her retirement years she faithfully visited her many friends and relatives in all the nursing homes and assisted living homes in Sheboygan County. Ginny also volunteered at the Sheboygan County Museum, The Service Club, Salvation Army, Church, and many other community projects.
She is survived by one daughter, Jan (Robert) Koepke of Adell; one granddaughter, Janna (Ken) Beck of Random Lake; twin great-granddaughters, Alexa and Kaitlin Beck of Random Lake; one sister-in-law, Carol Houmes of Colorado Springs, CO; and nieces, nephews; and many good friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ginny was preceded in death her brother, John “Jack” Houmes; her infant brother, Willard Houmes; and many other relatives.
A time of visitation and support will be held on Tuesday from 2:00-5:00 pm at Ballhorn Chapels.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her name.
Ginny will always be remembered as a loving and generous individual who served as an inspiration to others.
Ginny’s family sends a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Sunny Ridge for the compassion and care shown to her.
