Waunda Marie (Nicholas) Douglas was born during a snow storm on Christmas Eve, 1935 on her grandparents' farm in Hogshooter, Oklahoma. Born to father Virgil Nicholas and mother Mildred (Neyhard) Nicholas, life during the Dust Bowl years and accompanying Depression years was very lean and difficult. Virgil moved his family many times to find work, eventually settling them in Shawnee, Oklahoma. At 15 years of age, Waunda met her future husband, Robert Douglas, at Calvary Baptist Church on the first Sunday she visited. Waunda graduated from Shawnee High School in 1954, and a few weeks later, Robert and Waunda were married on July 2, 1954. Their family grew over the next few years, with the addition of their daughter Linda Sue, son Robert Kent, and daughter Keri Dawn. Robert and Waunda's lives were very full, and very busy with church, ballgames, camping trips, travelling over the years to many places, and their home was a place where teenagers, friends, and relatives liked to visit. Waunda was not only an active hostess, but she enjoyed reading, sewing, and maintaining their beautiful backyard.
Preceding Waunda in death was her husband of 51 years, Robert E. Douglas, and one brother,
Virgil Lee Nicholas. Leaving behind to cherish the memories and photographs, are one daughter, Linda Douglas Ehlinger and husband, Richard of Edmond; one son, Robert Kent Douglas of Edmond; and one daughter, Keri Douglas Harris, and husband, Paul, of Cameron, Texas. Also left to cherish her memory is one sister, Novella June Nicholas Hunt, of New Castle, Oklahoma, niece Nikki Sparkman and husband Brian, and nephew Jeremy Hunt; and one brother, Vernon Leroy Nicholas and wife Rhonda, of Traverse City, Michigan. Waunda loved all of her grandchildren and was proud to be a great grandmother.
