Survived by his wife, of 73 years, Patti Ruth Weems of San Antonio, TX and two sons, Jack Benson Weems of Caddo, Oklahoma and Wylan Adrian Weems of San Antonio Texas. As a young man growing up on a farm, in southern Oklahoma during the depression, hard work was common. He was one of the younger of seven siblings. Duties on the farm ranged from picking cotton and growing peanuts, to milking cows. Growing a huge garden was a necessity to feed everyone. His Father worked teams of mules and horses to construct roads and bridges in southern Oklahoma. He would tell stories as a little boy of being with his Father and riding on the necks of the horses during the day and sleeping under the wagon at night. He developed a love and respect for horses at an early age that remained his whole life. Jack loved to rodeo, train horses and calf rope as a young adult.
Later his family moved to Shawnee, Oklahoma where Jack graduated from Shawnee High School and met Patti Ruth Long. They married in 1950, establishing a home in Asher, Oklahoma and welcoming their first born son (Jack Benson) in 1953. Moving on to Seminole Oklahoma and welcoming their second son (Wylan) in 1965.
As mentioned earlier, due to his love for horses, he and Patti were involved in the Seminole Round Up Club. They traveled to numerous events and parades throughout the state winning numerous awards for show and horsemanship. Their oldest son, (Jack Benson) who was 3 yrs. old at the time, was officially the youngest member of the club. Jack also had a love for fiddle music and loved to hear Bob Wills and the Texas Play Boys.
Jack worked hard in the Seminole Oil Fields providing for his family and transitioned to General Motors Assemble Plant in Oklahoma City where he retired in the early 90’s. But retirement didn’t slow he and Patti down, as they went on to establish a concession business traveling all over Oklahoma and Texas perfecting the art of hand dipped Corn Dogs. Jack became known as the Corn Dog King.
Jack was led to Christ by a dear pastor friend, Brother Emery Day, at Ideal St. Baptist Church of Seminole in 1963. Jack and his father were very close and due to Jack’s excitement of spiritual matters, Jack’s Father made a profession of faith and was saved and baptized as well. God and the church has always been at the center of the Weems household. Honoring God and following his word has always been a priority.
Jack was an exceptional role model as a father, husband and friend. All though our hearts are broken at his passing, we have faith that we will see him again in the presence of God Almighty the maker of Heaven and Earth.
