Kay Lynn (Marshall) Clayton passed into her Savior's presence on Friday, April 1st, 2022. Kay was a Shawnee native, born to Wenfred "Ray" Marshall and Verna "Maxine" (Beal) Marshall on February 19, 1946. She grew up in a close knit extended family and made friends everywhere she went. Kay graduated from Shawnee High School in 1964 and headed to East Central in Ada to become a teacher. Graduating from college in 1968, then Miss Marshall, Kay began teaching for Shawnee Public Schools. She was a lifetime first grade teacher, with the exception of one year of Kindergarten experience. All but 3 of her 27 years of teaching were spent at Jefferson Elementary. She taught for 3 years at Sequoyah during the mid 80s, in the first grade center there. Kay married Ed Clayton, a Kansas transplant who also taught in Shawnee at both the T&I and Shawnee Highschool, and who preceded her in death. Kay was a devoted mother and grandmother who spent her spare time at ballfields, gymnasiums and band concerts, cheering on her Dale Pirates and sometimes even at Jim Thorpe Stadium singing the old fight song.
She is survived by her children Kaylee (Clayton) Hoffman and her husband Dan Hoffman of Shawnee and Lee and Ashley Clayton also of Shawnee, as well as her Grandchildren Calleigh and Thatcher Hoffman, Charlie and Henry Clayton, and goddaughter Elizabeth "Rene'e" Campbell, and her children Allyson and Racyn Campbell, as well as many other beloved family members and friends.
Kay's Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 30th, at 1:00, at Liberty Baptist Church in Shawnee. Graveside services will be held privately at a later date for her Grandchildren.
