Longtime Shawnee resident, Dale D. Gibson, 84, went to be the Lord on Tuesday, May 12, 2015. Mr. Gibson was born on February 10, 1931 in Seminole County. He was raised in the Seminole area by his grandparents. He graduated from Strother High School and went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree from East Central University. Mr. Gibson served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant in 1955. He married the love of his life, Betty Vane, on December 23, 1956. They eventually settled in the Shawnee area where they raised their 2 children. Mr. Gibson coached midget and peewee baseball in Dale. He worked as an accountant at Kerr McGee and retired after 30 years. After retirement, he spent his time as a cattle rancher. He was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church for over 50 years, where he taught Sunday School for many years. He was also an avid OU fan and loved his dog Boomer.
Dale was preceded in death by his mom, Edith Gibson; grandparents, George and Lizzie Gibson; and 4 aunts.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Gibson of the home; daughter, Donna Dodd of Moore; son, Danny Gibson of Seminole; grandchildren, Steven Dodd and wife Kristie of Moore, Cassandra Bisbee and husband Jerron of California; great grandson, Ryan Daniel Dodd of Moore; and sister, Judy Manning of Moore.
Visitation will be 3pm – 8pm on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at Resthaven Funeral Home
Funeral services will be 1pm Friday at Wesley United Methodist Church with Pastor Ben Williams officiating with Kris Steele assisting. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
