Kevin was born at The US Naval Hospital of Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, NC on September 22, 1959
to the late Anthony Benz and Patricia Lilley Clemmons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by a brother, Rusty Benz; step-father, Rob Clemmons; in-laws, John Bouie and Deloris “Monk”
McCumbee; sisters, Lillie Mae Yale and Wanda Clemmons.
As a teenager, he was involved in Western Horse Shows, winning numerous trophies and prizes. As a
young man, Kevin began his mariner career as a Commercial Fisherman. In 1992 he began dredging. In
2000 he became a brother of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 25, Marine Division.
During his mariner career, he worked up and down the East Coast, Gulf of Mexico and Mississippi
River. He retired as a Leverman /Operator.
Those left to carry on his legacy are his wife of 34 years, Belinda Benz of the home; three children,
Brandy and husband Brandon Jackson of Marion, NC; Abram Benz and partner Nicola Scutt of Portland,
Oregon; Lilley Benz of Ash, NC; two grandchildren, Cian Benz and Rheya Simpson of Ash, NC; step-
mother Rosemary Benz of Temple PA; siblings, Michelle and husband Eiford Clemmons of Supply, NC;
Andrew and wife Elaine Clemmons of Ocean Isle Beach, NC; Susan and husband Kevin Buck of Reading,
PA; Nicholas Benz of Temple PA; Danielle and husband Dick Tate of Chalfont, PA;
David Clemmons of Supply, NC; Jimmy Clemmons of Shallotte, NC and Robert (Boy) Clemmons of
Fairmont, NC; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.
Upon retirement, he proudly began gardening, with the goal of becoming “A Master Gardener”.
