Gracie Mae Evans

Gracie was born in Brunswick County on January 21, 1943, daughter of the late Henry W. and Lattie Register Hewett. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. She and her husband owned and operated G&G Dredging for many years. Gracie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt. She loved flowers and sitting by her koi fish pond and rocking on the front porch. She always enjoyed going on family trips, was an avid reader of the Brunswick Beacon and she always looked forward to the joke that was published weekly in the News and Shopper. Preceding her in death was her granddaughter, Jordan Evans; great-grandchild, Avery; two brothers, Woodrow Hewett and Odell Hewett; and son-in-law Mike Gause.

Survivors include her husband, Gene Garland Evans of the home; a son, Gene Evans, Jr. and wife Jamie of Shallotte; two daughters, Gina Gore and husband Mark of Shallotte and Greta Gause of Shallotte; a sister, Christine Hewett and husband Richard of Shallotte; twelve grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 11, 2021 at three o’clock in the afternoon at Oak Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Kenny Locklear officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be David Kelly, Oliver Ramirez, Josh Child, Nicky Clemmons, Mark Evans, and Eric Evans.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
