Mr. Bobbitt was born on May 23, 1948, in Newport News, Va. He was the son of the late Frank Bobbitt, Jr. and Sarah Myrick Bobbitt. He attended Warwick High School, where he met his wife, Sandi, on his 16th birthday and then graduated from Hampton High School. They dated throughout high school and college and were married a week after she graduated nursing school. Some of Frank's fondest high-school memories were surfing at Virginia Beach with Sandi and friends. Frank went on to graduate from the University of Richmond with a bachelor of Science in Business Administration and was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.
After they were married, Frank and Sandi lived in Newport News for two years, where he assisted in the design of the Alaskan Pipeline. In 1972, they relocated to Greensboro, N.C., and Frank went to work with his uncle at The Bobbitt company, selling heat reclamation systems. Frank went on to co-own Industrial Electric Inc., where he retired at the ripe old age of 48.
After retiring, Frank went on over 50 cruises with Sandi. His sister, Dianne, plus daughter Kristin and her children would often join them on these trips. There were many a night spent having fun at the blackjack table with Sandi, Kristin and Dianne by his side.
In addition to cruising, Frank's favorite place in the world was Holden Beach, N.C. In a four-year timespan, Frank and Sandi along with Kristin, built a beach house, "We Three Beach Bums," while listening to Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, and many others. Much fun was had at Holden Beach over the years, with many friends and family coming to visit. Frank and Sandi also made several beloved friends while basking in the sun and enjoying the waves. He even brought out his surfboard for his 40th birthday for one last ride. While spending time at Holden, Frank and Sandi would often go to S.O.S. in North Myrtle Beach, S.C. for Spring and Fall Migration. (To those of you who shag, you know what this is!) Kristin still enjoys spending time at the beach house with her family.
Frank's hobbies included hunting, spending time at the beach house, and watching the Washington Redskins while enjoying a cold Natty Light. He was a good friend to those who knew him, and you were almost always guaranteed a laugh during a visit with him. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Sandra Bryant Bobbitt, of Leland;daughter Kristin Bobbitt-O'Malley and husband Jim of Chapel Hill; sister Dianne Wade and husband Gary of Atlantia, Ga.; and grandchildren, Vance McKinley Luster and Brennan Reece Luster.
In keeping with Frank's wishes, no formal services are planned at this time. The family will reach out to friends with details for a Celebration of Life , to be planned at a later date.
