Charlie is often in my thoughts and this is particular when I speak with Rich (Andy) Andersen.  Recently Andy called to wish me a remind me I was a year older as measured by passing of another Birthday.  Us Foster Wheeler Alum don’t talk unless we remember a story about work and most likely it includes Charlie.  We miss him, and think about him often.  May your thoughts of Charlie comfort you as they do me.

The Monks of Newark Abbey together with the Alumni, the Students, and the Faculty and Staff of Saint Benedict's Preparatory School, wish to express their sympathy to the family of the late Charles F. Nash, Jr. ‘53, whose name has been added to the list of our extended family for whom we pray daily in the Abbey Church at Mass and the Divine Office.

Ellen, I was very sorry to hear the sad news about Charlie.
Charlie,  one in a million, a brilliant engineer, a warm friendly man, a great communicator and mentor, a big man with a big heart.
I worked with Charlie in the late 80's and early 90's, on the Fort St Vain MVDS in Colorado and various other collaborative projects, travelling to the US regularly  from the UK. Charlie was always there to extend his hospitality and make sure my time was well spent to achieve our project goals. He enjoyed challenging project detail, ensuring things were done right and resolving issues honestly.
He was a wonderful friend, who enriched our lives, I will always have treasured memories of the time we spent together.

Dearest El , 
On my planned visit  to see you Chuck and Chris this coming Monday I hoped to thank Chuck for all of the wonderful times we shared, for nearly sixty years.  Instead I will say "Thank you" here to him.
Thank you Chuck for so generously sharing your beautiful home and pool with so many small and large children . Going to your home was one of the highlights of the Summer, and the barbecues   were a kids and adults dream.  Such excitement and fun . We were always so welcome.
  Seeing you and Michael laugh together as the lobster crawled across the kitchen floor , what a memory.
 My whole family and I are so grateful , you have enriched our lives .

Ellen, I was deeply saddened to learn of your dear husband’s death.  These recent days and weeks must have been very difficult.  Though I did not know Chuck, I do know you, and am certain that Chuck must have been a fine husband and father.

I am so saddened to see our Chuckie has left us and have gone to even a better place to be with his son Michael .   Ellen  , I’m so sorry for you. You always treated Chuck as a king.  He loved you so so much , as you loved him. It was so apparent.  You both helped me and my sons through the  most difficult days of our lives.  I will never forget your love and  giving ways.

I first met Chuck 80 years ago in grammar school at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament in East Orange, NJ and then to St. Benedict’s Prep together and then on to Villanova. Since then, we have been close friends for many years along with my wife Sally and Ellen when we both married in 1964 and from then friends for life. Chuck and I were in each other’s wedding parties and godfathers to our sons. We shared many life experiences together over the years. In recent years we enjoyed mystery novels and discussing them as well as sharing memories of the past when he would remember stories of our colleagues much more than I.   

Charlie and I worked together on the MVDS project at what was then a division of Foster Wheeler called Foster Wheeler Energy Applications, or FWEA for short. Charlie was the Project Manager  responsible for getting  the project completed, and I was the Project Engineer. As such we worked together very closely for two years, or so, and I got to know Charlie very well. He was one of the best bosses I worked for. Not only was he a excellent engineer but also an excellent manager. Nothing seemed to phase him. He took the problems that any large construction project eventually has in stride, never getting excited or angry, but worked to resolve each issue in stride.  In fact he brought the project in ahead of time and well below budget, which was remarkable for a first of a kind project of this size.

The best part of this job was spending a month or so in Colorado at the job site resolving the last minute Quality Control issues that always go along with a Nuclear project. We worked together, and ate together,  with a bunch of other guys, to get the project completed and had a really fun time of it to boot.

I will always have fond memories of Charlie. He could be a bit of a curmudgeon at times, but once you got to know him, he was just a great guy with a dry sense of humor. I will miss him.

As part of the Connelly clan, I grew up with Uncle Chuck as a fixture at family events. I remember a story of him being interrogated by my Dad (Pat) and my uncles when things with Ellen were getting serious. He passed the test. Chris, Michael and I were close and I felt like a beloved part of the family as they went through some challenging times. I always felt his love personally and could see it with his family as well. As others said, I know how much he loved the water and his place looking over it. Thank you, Uncle Chuck, for many years of kindness.

Ellen, I'm very sorry to hear about Charlie, what a great guy! I worked with Charlie during the 1990s and we spent a lot of time together working on engineering projects and visiting sites across the breadth of the USA.  I remember Charlie as being a very capable engineer who liked to get into the detail and keep me on the straight and narrow.

My memories of Chuck begin and end with a reflection on his quiet kindness. Not a man of many words, at least in my experience, he was a man of heartfelt compassion. When I was very sick, he sent his wife, my pal Ellen, to be at my side—even when the hospital was 3 hours away from their home. I also recall the many times he repeated two questions about my writing. “ How long did it take you to write that  column?” And, “How did you  get that idea?” The questions were not simple queries for information. They were affirmations writ Chuckie style. We will miss him. Yet, we do have a saint who will be watching over all of us and that is a comfort. May all who love him rest in that peace, especially  my Elle Belle and Christopher.

We knew Charlie for over 50 years. Ben worked with him at FWEA on many nuclear related projects. He has fond memories of taking business trips together..to California, England and Boston. We always enjoyed visiting Charlie and Ellen in North Carolina; they were such hospitable hosts and we shared many laughs together. We can picture him sitting on his deck, drink in hand,  with Ellen and Christopher, watching the boats go by. Rest In Peace, friend❤️❤️

Charles was always a friendly person in the office.  I am sorry I didn't get to see him in his later years

I first met Charlie in 1973 when I joined Foster Wheeler Corporation, and have known him ever since.  Charlie was an innovative manager, a clever structural engineer and a helpful mentor during the time we worked together, as well as beyond our work.  He helped me grow within our close engineering team while working on innovative energy equipment projects from high temperature gas reactors and liquid metal cooled reactors to wind power and various solar projects.  We were the go to guys if it hadn’t been done before or yet.  His contributions are too many to list here.  Charlie was also a good friend and a loyal colleague, and we who were blessed to know him will miss him dearly.

Chuckie had a smile and kind word for all who knew him.  He loved his home on the Waterway, especially his balcony view of boats moving along to distant places. 
Many hearts are saddened by his passing.
