Todd Richard McKenna was born April 20, 1970, in Lansing, Michigan, the youngest son of Richard Kirk McKenna and Onette O’Mara McKenna. Todd was raised in Seminole, Florida, and graduated from Seminole High School in 1989, where he met his wife, Jacqueline Dawn Reed McKenna, during his junior year. They were married February 29, 1992. Together they had two daughters, Hannah, 24, and Aubrey McKenna, 21. Todd spent 24 years in the United States Coast Guard, during which time he and his family were stationed in Michigan, Alaska, Texas, and Florida. Todd ultimately achieved the rank of Chief and retired in 2013. Todd was a dedicated husband and father, known for his compassion and generosity. After his wife’s cancer diagnosis in 2009, he became Jacqueline’s caretaker up until she lost her battle with cancer on December 6th, 2021; they were married for almost 30 years, and together with their daughters, they toured the globe.
Following shortly behind his wife, Todd died June 22, 2022, while doing what he loved. Todd lived his life on the water, in part due to his profession, but mostly because it was where he was most in his element. He could frequently be found diving, sailing, snorkeling, fishing and lobstering. Todd was passionate in all that he did. An avid and accomplished hunter, he traveled across the country and as far as Africa to hunt. He earned his Alaska Assistant Guide license to guide others on big game hunts in the state.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jacqueline, and is survived by his daughters, Hannah and Aubrey, his parents, Kirk and Onette, his stepmother Betsey, his siblings Troy, Tami, Tina, Megan, and Meredith, as well as many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to Water for Wildlife or the American Cancer Society.
