Robert M Jenkins

Robert (Bob) Miller Jenkins was born July 17, 1924 to Reverend James Everett Jenkins and Helen Corry Maxwell in Aliceville, Alabama, the fourth of five children, his older siblings: James E. Jenkins, Martha Jenkins Baldwin, John T. Jenkins and younger sister Betty Jo Jenkins Witherspoon.

The family moved to Florida when Bob was young, where they lived around the state before settling in Vero Beach. Bob graduated from Vero Beach High School in January 1942 to go into the Marines. He served four years and was stationed in the Philippines as a mechanic. He was discharged as a Sergeant February 14, 1946 and headed back to Vero Beach. Shortly thereafter he met Gladys Ida Algren and they married April 26, 1946.

Bob received his Bachelor Degree in Education from the University of Florida and became a High School Teacher and Coach in Mulberry Florida. Also as a young man he referred football, baseball and basketball in the school system and community. After a few years in Florida, Bob and Gladys moved to Rhode Island where Gladys family lived. From here Bob decided to follow in his father’s footsteps as a Methodist Preacher and enter Emory University, where he earned his Master’s Degree in Theology.

Bob entered the Florida Conference in 1952 and received his first church, Northeast Methodist Church, St. Petersburg in 1957.

In 1958 Bob and Gladys adopted their first of two children, Daniel Andrew (Danny) and in 1960 adopted their second child Katherine Helen (Kathy).

Bob continued in the Florida Conference, through the conversion with Evangelical United Bretheren in 1968 to become the United Methodist Church, until he retired at age 70 from First United Methodist Boca Raton.

Bob and Gladys retired in Pinellas Park where he became the Visitation Minister at First United Methodist of Pinellas Park, he served until he was 80 and continued to worship and maintained his membership until his passing.

Bob is preceded in death by wife Gladys Ida Agren, and son Daniel Andrew Jenkins. He leaves behind his daughter Katherine Jenkins Britts, her husband Jarrell Britts; he also has six grandchildren, Nicole Jenkins Ghann and her husband Mikael Ghann, Kelly Britts Cressman, Amy Britts, Scott Nichols, Jake Britts and Wyatt Britts and eight great-grandchildren; Tyler Lessa, Andrew Lessa, Mikael Ghann, Joseph Ghann, Saige Nichols, Savannah Nichols, Samuel Nichols and Samantha Cressman.

A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 p.m. Sunday, August 13, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in Pinellas Park. His eternal resting place will be Bay Pines Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Bay Pines.
