SWEETLAND, KENNETH PAUL “Ken”, 75, of Seminole, Florida, met his Savior on Sunday, April 29, 2012 at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Florida. He was born in Utica, New York May 26, 1936, the son of Louis R. and Muriel (Shields) Sweetland.
Ken retired from the Utica Psychiatric Hospital in 1982 where he worked as an assistant social worker in many areas of the hospital. After retirement, he and his wife, Carol moved to Florida where Ken was maintenance director for Suncoast Rentals until his second retirement in 2002.
Ken served in the US Army during the Korean War. For over twenty years, Ken was an active member of St. Jerome Catholic Church where he served as an usher. He was a member of the American Legion and was a past president of the Utica Psychiatric Credit Union. He enjoyed participating in and observing all sports
.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl and a granddaughter, Meghan.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Carol (Sullivan); a daughter, Robin, and her husband Mike Grimmer of Seminole, FL; three sons, Kenneth Paul Sweetland, Jr. of St. Ansgar, IA, James Patrick Sweetland of Manhattan, NY, and Brian James Sweetland and his wife, Shelley of Largo, FL; ten beloved grandchildren, Danielle, Johnny, Ryan, and Matthew Grimmer, and Kyle, Josh, Nick, Tyler, Marissa and Jenica Sweetland; two sisters, Joan Madore of Metarie, LA and Sylvia Barnes of Marcy, NY.
Visitation Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at Garden Sanctuary Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral Mass celebrated 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2012 at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Largo, FL. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Clearwater, FL.
