Ed was born on May 12, 1947, in Schenectady, New York, to Delma Mercier and Edward P. Kearney Sr. He graduated from Bishop Gibbons High School in 1965 and attended Hudson Valley Community College. He served heroically in the Vietnam War with the United States Army.
He married Mary Matuszak in 1967. Together they shared 57 years of marriage primarily living in Schenectady before retiring to sunny Florida.
For 37 years, Ed worked in the Department of Engineering for the City of Schenectady. He was active in his community as a member of the VFW, American Legion, and as president/vice president of the CSEA, City Hall Chapter. He enjoyed a good game of chess, sailing on Sacandaga Lake, and riding motorcycles with Mary on the back.
Ed is survived by his wife, Mary Kearney; his daughter, Deana Kearney Alvy (Thomas); and his grandsons, Thomas Joseph Alvy and Trevor Edward Alvy. He is also survived by his sister, Joan Chambers, as well as cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Timothy Kearney; and brother-in-law, John “Jay” Chambers.
A funeral service will be held on November 9, 2024, 11:00 a.m., at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1507 Trotter Rd, Largo, Florida. Ed will be laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
